“The first thing when they took you there, there is a big hole they used to put you in. You get snakes and other bad, bad things there. You will be there without food and water for three days and nights, and when you survive, then, you are good to go,” recounted a former Anti-Terrorist Unit (ATU) officer of the defunct infamous Gbartala training base in Gbartala, Kokoya District in Bong County.
Today, we celebrate the acquittal and freedom of journalist Darlington Pelenah. The unanimous verdict of NOT GUILTY reached on May 2, 2013validates what we have known and declared all along: that Darlington Pelenah is completely innocent of the crimes of armed robbery and criminal conspiracy for which he was wrongfully charged, indicted, detained, and prosecuted by the Liberia National Police and its parent body, the Ministry of Justice. He is a long-serving professional journalist who whole-heartedly respects, upholds and cherishes his individual, professional and family values.
Continuing with the nomination of officials to positions in government, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf named the following persons, subject to confirmation by the Honorable Liberian Senate, where applicable:
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has called on members of the President’s Young Professionals Program (PYPP), employed with various ministries and agencies, to assist government in its fight against corruption, and to enhance ethical performance and the integrity of public servants in the country.
