LIBERIA: APM Terminals, Others Honor NPA Managing Director

This memorable day was Saturday, December 01, 2012, and the location was at the Stephen Tolbert Estate sports Pitch in Gardnersville, where hundreds gathered to joyously witness the honoring program of the Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA) by a chain of stakeholders of the Liberian economy. This colorful program packaged series of sporting activities to gracefully mark this day which was also engulfed with barrage of entertainments including series of acrobatic cultural performances. 

The participating football and kickball squads came from some of the NPA stakeholders, including the APM Terminals, one of the major organizers of the one day sporting tournament in honor of Madam Matilda Wokie Parker.

Other participating teams were Customs Broker Association, the Bureau of Customs of the Ministry of Finance, and the National Port Authority with the teams battling each others in their bid to capture the two giant size trophies respectfully.

The honoree, Madam Parker was seen with glaring smiles as she watched the play by play description which was also carried live by State radio, the Liberian Broadcasting System or ELBC as both trophies were seen positioned opposite the honoree, as other well-wishers, including senior staff of the NPA, APM Terminals, the Customs Brokers Association, and the Ministry of Finance Bureau of Customs anxiously sat in anticipation of the end result from the games, as all teams battle each others.

The objective of this one-day sporting events, according to the organizers was to publicly show a high level of appreciation to the NPA Managing Director for her perfect and professional managerial skills at the NPA, and to give her flowers while she is still alive.

At the end of the tournament, the soccer squad of the APM Terminals won the men’s trophy after defeating NPA at penalty kickoff, while the kickball team of the NPA captured the women trophy.

Following the presentation of both trophies to the winners, the honoree was gown by staff and employees of participating teams with a beautifully designed African styled dress.

For her part, the honoree thanked those who noticed her administrative hard work, and ensured them of more to be done in the coming years.
